Don was born in the farming community of Forest, Ontario. As a young man his life was changed when he heard the Gospel that Christ died for his sins and was raised. From that time he dedicated his life to serve his Lord, who he loved. He was an active member in all churches he attended throughout his life.

He met and married Gayle Wagg when he was working at Imperial Oil in Sarnia, Ontario. They were married on July 9, 1960 and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Don began his life as an entrepreneur when he raised farm animals and crops while working at Dupont in Corunna, Ontario. He then became the General Manager of Quality Swine Co-Op in Sheddon, Ontario. He developed a family campground business on Manitoulin Island called Stanley Park which he owned and operated for over 20 years. After retirement Don and Gayle enjoyed living in Mindemoya and wintered in southwestern Florida.

In 2020 Don and Gayle moved closer to their family and have enjoyed being part of the Chirstian community at Shepherd Village.
