Leila Effie Grace Hayden (nee Williams)
March 26, 1937 - January 12, 2026
Leila passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026 at the St. Joseph's Lodge in Gore Bay at the age of 88.
Leila was born on Friday, March 26, 1937 in Elizabeth Bay to the late John and Effie Williams (nee Matheson).
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred Hayden.
Loving mother of George (Paula) Hayden, Sue Hayden (John), Greg Hayden and Jeff (Mary Ann) Hayden.
Cherished grandmother of Jordan (Jen), Jessica, Kris (Leeann), Amanda (Wade), Emily (Matthew), Austin, Jayden, Holly (Jayden) and Cory.
Proud great grandmother of Trent (Eryn), Taylor, Mason, Hayden, Kane, Olton and Bailey.
Leila was the loved sister of Lyle (Alberta) Williams, Ardeth Burmaster (predeceased), Norman (Julie) Williams (both predeceased) and Lenna (Orace) Hayden (both predeceased).
Sister-in-law of Maurice (Julia) Hayden (both predeceased), Bill (Eva predeceased) Hayden.
Leila will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
In her younger years Leila was a teacher in Thessalon and in Mills Township. She later worked at Manitoulin Transport for 26 years, retiring in 2002. She had a great love for her children and grandchildren and cherished every moment spent together. She would often take the kids out camping when they were younger. She loved getting dressed up to go to church. She was an amazing baker who always had a rack of homemade pies or some of her famous banana cake ready. Leila was the kindest and most sweetest person you could ever meet.

at the Spring Bay Pentecostal Church
on Saturday, January 17, 2026
Visitation from 10 to 11am.
Service at 11am
with luncheon to follow.
Burial will follow in Burpee Mills Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Bay Pentecostal Church or to the St. Joseph’s Lodge.
