Lois Newton Obituary

NEWTON - Lois, passed away peacefully on Friday April 22, 2022 in her 79th year. Lois was the 4th child to John and Mary Orford and is survived by her beloved husband, Roger Newton, her children, Chris Lirette, Sheri (Richard) Blaker, Anita Terri, and Angie (Chris) Coard, and her step-children Carina (Mike) Woykin, Troy Newton and Tony (Megan) Newton. She will be sadly missed by her 9 grandchildren, Katie (Chad) Katnich, Eric Olsen, Taylor Chamberlin, Scott Olsen, Jordan Roth, Kylie Roberts, Cole Newton, Bennett Newton and Ayla Newton, her siblings, Pat Best, Floyd (Gaynor) Orford, Murray (Ruth) Orford, Marian (Ian) Holm, and Doug (Sylvia) Orford, her sister-in-law Denise Newton, along with her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lois was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Melanie Lirette, her brothers, Jack Orford and Don Orford, her brother-in-law, Edward Best and her sisters-in-law, Alma-Jean Orford and Anna Orford. Born in Gore Bay, Lois left Manitoulin Island for the Toronto area before moving her family to British Columbia in 1979. Her deep roots to the Island beckoned and she returned 30 years later. She and Roger have since resided in Providence Bay and enjoyed their time spent in the community, active with the seniors’ groups in both Providence Bay and Tehkummah. She always had homemade gifts and cakes to celebrate milestones and birthdays with her friends and she loved to host large family gatherings. Lois will always be remembered for her generosity and love for family and friends alike. She provided comfort and solace while asking for nothing in return. Lois had a challenging life but would rarely accept any form of help or offering. She sacrificed many things in order to provide for those she cared for most. She was humble and forgiving. Her family is the one thing she held dear to her heart and would give everything she had for anyone in need.

Lois has requested no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/mindemoya-hospital-auxiliary-inc/, so they can continue to support the residents of Manitoulin Island with the great work they do.
