In Loving Memory of
Ruth Low
March 30, 1932 - March 16, 2026
Ruth passed away peacefully at the St. Joseph's Lodge in Gore Bay on Monday, March 16, 2026 at the age of 93.
Ruth Low was born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 30, 1932. She was the seventh child born to her parents Arthur and Rachel Low.
As an adult in St. Catharines, Ontario, Ruth, along with her older sister Edna, was a caregiver to both of her parents and her father's parents, William and Maria Low, until their deaths.
In about 1986 Ruth and Edna moved to the Manitoulin Island to look after Uncle Frank and Aunt Edna Palmer. Aunt Edna was Ruth's mother's younger sister.
After Uncle Frank and Aunt Edna died, Ruth and Edna moved to an apartment in Gore Bay, Ontario. In December of 2004 Ruth suffered a severe stroke which paralyzed half of her body. She was flown to the hospital in Sudbury, Ontario by helicopter. Then, in the middle of January of 2005, she was taken back by ambulance to the Mindemoya Hospital on The Manitoulin. The doctor there said she had made a 100% recovery from her stroke.
Then, in the middle of January 2005, Ruth and Edna were admitted to The Manitoulin Lodge in Gore Bay, Ontario. Edna died there in 2009.
Ruth was a resident of the lodge, now called St. Joseph's Lodge, for over 20 years where she received excellent care.
Ruth was a devoted Christian and loved the Bible and times of prayer. She also was an excellent cook and could prepare very good dinners as well as beautiful pies.
Ruth was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Edna, Gerald, Clarence, Dorothy, and Bill. She is only survived by her brother Thomas who is now 98 years of age and living in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Ruth was much loved by those who knew her best and will be greatly missed by many people including her brother Thomas who played a major role in her life for her latter years.
