In Loving Memory of
William Robert “Bob” Bannister
It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing in Sudbury on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the age of 77 years.
Son of the late John and the late Nellie (nee Dillen) Bannister.
Beloved husband of the late Karen (nee Proctor) Bannister and the late Louise (nee Gregoire) Bannister.
Loving father of Kent (Jenn), Jody (Dan) and Drew (Katie).
Dear brother of Mary Roy (Ron).
Predeceased by siblings Sara Jane Meisner (late Bob) and Elizabeth Soudant (late Frank).
Cherished grandfather of Owen, Erin, Abby, Carter, Brinn, Tatum and Emery.
Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A resident of Sudbury for many years, Mr. Bannister was a retired Area Manager for the Bank of Montreal. Prior to moving to Sudbury, he served the Bank of Montreal in Little Current, Gore Bay, North Bay, Acton, Milton, Elliot Lake, Trenton, Belleville, Orillia, Timmins, Haliburton and Sudbury. He retired on a disability pension in 1985 while serving as the Northern Ontario Area Manager for the Bank, headquartered in Sudbury.
He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, a past board member of Participation Projects – ICAN Independence Centre and Network for the City of Greater Sudbury and a past member of the Rotary Club. He was a very enthusiastic follower of the Sudbury Wolves Hockey Club since 1992.
Bob was very proud of his children and their accomplishments, with daughter Jody graduating from The University of Guelph and the University of Toronto. His son Drew was drafted while playing for the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League into The National Hockey League by the Tampa Bay Lightening. His son Kent also played hockey with the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds and later graduated from the University of Guelph.
In 1971 Bob built a family cottage in Gore Bay, “Dunworkin”, where he enjoyed many summers. It remains a cherished legacy for his family. Bob was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. Despite being in a wheelchair, Bob enjoyed many years of cruising with his sister Mary, and family, travelling to various destinations around the world.
A heartfelt thanks to the countless PSW’s, numerous other healthcare professionals, and the staff at Motion Specialties for helping Bob to maintain his independence, living in his own wheelchair accessible home until his death.
